SMM March 16 News:
According to data from March 14, the weekly port arrivals of domestic bauxite totaled 4.145 million mt, up 256,000 mt WoW; the weekly port departures of bauxite from Guinea's main ports totaled 4.593 million mt, up 1.375 million mt WoW; and the weekly port departures of bauxite from Australia's main ports totaled 1.127 million mt, up 291,000 mt WoW.
Recently, Guinea's weekly bauxite port departures have remained at high levels, while Australia's weekly bauxite port departures have rebounded compared to earlier periods. Subsequently, domestic imports of bauxite supply may increase. Additionally, due to the earlier increase in Guinea's bauxite shipments, the average domestic port arrivals of bauxite have grown, leading to an increase in imported bauxite supply and a buildup in port bauxite inventory. As of March 14, 2025, SMM statistics show that the total bauxite inventory at nine domestic ports reached 15.48 million mt, up 470,000 mt WoW and up 1.53 million mt from the lowest inventory level of 13.95 million mt in January 2025.
SMM Brief Comment: In the short term, bauxite supply may increase compared to earlier periods, and the supply and demand fundamentals of bauxite may gradually shift towards a more relaxed state. In the short term, bauxite prices are likely to remain under pressure.
